Shanghai Railway Station Unveils First Comprehensive Smart Service Hub

On July 7, the unveiling ceremony of the Shanghai Railway Station District Party-Mass Service Station, themed “Strengthening Services Through Party Building, A Warm Service Booth Accompanies Your Journey”, was held at the South Square of Shanghai Railway Station. Jing Xu , Deputy Secretary of the District Committee, and Ming Zhao , Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, jointly unveiled the newly built comprehensive service booth. Liangjin Mo, Member of the District Committee Standing Committee and Director of the Organization Department, and Deputy District Mayor Shi Yu presented certificates to representatives of the “Railway Triangle” Volunteer Service Alliance. More than 50 representatives from municipal and district departments, station-area partner organizations, and workers in emerging industries witnessed the official launch of this new service facility.

The Shanghai Railway Station District Party-Mass Service Station was designed and built by ZEMSO Group, demonstrating ZEMSO’s professional expertise in developing human-centered smart public service facilities. By integrating modern architectural aesthetics with intelligent public service technologies, ZEMSO Group has created a multifunctional service space that not only improves passenger convenience but also contributes to Shanghai’s development of smarter, people-oriented urban infrastructure.

Located in the core area of the South Square of Shanghai Railway Station, the service station covers approximately 60 square meters and is adjacent to the Shanghai Blood Center Donation House. The building’s exterior design is inspired by the petals of the Magnolia, Shanghai’s city flower, combined with a glass curtain wall to reflect the unique cultural charm and modern urban identity of Shanghai.

The service station integrates multiple functions, including a Party-Mass Red Station, New Era Civilization Practice Station, Integrated Grid Management Liaison Station, Volunteer Service Base, and Caring Station for Outdoor Workers. As the first comprehensive service hub at a railway transportation hub in Shanghai, it leverages the characteristics of the station area to create a “rapid response team” for grid governance, a “warm harbor” for volunteer services, and a “welcoming home” for outdoor workers and emerging employment groups.

During the unveiling ceremony, the first “Jinglin Assistance Service” Yangtze River Delta Service Point located inside the station was also officially launched. As an important initiative by Shanghai’s civil affairs system to provide cross-provincial government services for non-Shanghai residents, the service point utilizes the “One-Stop Government Service Platform” to extend public service access to transportation hubs. It transforms cross-provincial administrative services from a task requiring a special trip into a convenient service available during daily travel, creating a new model of “transportation hub + government service.”

The Party-Mass Service Station is equipped with various public amenities, including wheelchairs, refrigerators, AED devices, charging and drinking facilities, microwave ovens, bilingual guidance machines, and smart display screens. By collaborating with organizations such as the Federation of Trade Unions, Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and Culture and Tourism Bureau, the station also provides additional services including job search terminals, tourism guidance, and reading areas. This small service booth connects a wide range of public welfare initiatives. After operation, it will provide 12-hour daily service throughout the year, continuously delivering warmth and care through practical community services and enhancing the city’s welcoming image.

From a small service booth to the first comprehensive service hub at a railway passenger transport center in Shanghai, the Shanghai Railway Station District Party-Mass Service Station is not only a window that conveys the warmth of the city, but also a vivid example of the people-oriented philosophy behind smart city development.
