Recently, the next-generation smart bus shelter in Shanghai's Shibei Hi-Tech Park, Jing'an District, was officially unveiled. Featuring expanded functionalities and intelligent services, the project brings greater convenience to daily commuters and urban residents.
The project was designed and implemented with the participation of Shanghai Zemso Urban Furniture Technology Co., Ltd. Under the leadership of the Jing'an District Government, coordinated by the District Construction and Management Committee, and strongly supported by Shibei Hi-Tech Group, this initiative has become a new benchmark for urban public service infrastructure.
Drawing inspiration from the overall architectural style of Shibei Hi-Tech Park, ZEMSO seamlessly integrated the park's modern aesthetics and technological spirit into the design of the smart bus shelter. The structure adopts an elegant dark-gold color palette with clean lines and a minimalist form. This design not only complements the contemporary architecture of the park but also conveys a strong sense of innovation and technological advancement through its metallic finish. More than just a transportation facility, the smart bus shelter serves as an urban showcase, enhancing the streetscape while reflecting the quality and identity of the district.
Unlike conventional bus shelters that primarily provide weather protection, the new ZEMSO smart bus shelter embraces an integrated concept of Space + Technology + Service, achieving a comprehensive upgrade from physical infrastructure to intelligent systems.
Inside the shelter, commuters can access self-service vending machines for refreshments and daily necessities. The seating area is equipped with wireless charging pads and USB ports, supporting mobile work and everyday device charging needs. In addition, high-definition surveillance systems and intelligent management modules operate in real time to enhance public safety and ensure stable facility operations. The bus shelter has evolved from a simple waiting area into a compact urban service center that balances efficiency, convenience, and user comfort.
At the heart of the smart bus shelter is a 55-inch LCD electronic information display, with reserved interfaces for real-time bus arrival information and dynamic data updates. The shelter also incorporates holographic display technology, enabling multidimensional visual presentations and digital content displays during nighttime or special events. These advanced display solutions transform the shelter from a passive information carrier into an interactive digital interface, creating new opportunities for future urban digital communication and brand engagement.
One of the project's most innovative features is the integration of a drone landing platform, reserving infrastructure for future low-altitude logistics, emergency delivery services, and urban air mobility applications. The shelter is also equipped with a laser projection system capable of displaying dynamic visual content in specific scenarios or at night, further enhancing the technological atmosphere and communication value of the space.
Leveraging ZEMSO's expertise in smart public transportation solutions, the bus shelter can be connected to a centralized operation and maintenance platform for remote monitoring, status alerts, and data analytics. This allows the project to go beyond improvements in appearance and functionality, achieving a comprehensive upgrade in operational management and long-term sustainability. As a result, the shelter possesses the key characteristics of a truly smart infrastructure solution: scalability, replicability, and sustainable management.
Built in accordance with the Technical Requirements for Intelligent Urban Bus Shelters, this project represents a significant innovation in Shanghai's public transportation infrastructure and provides a valuable reference for future upgrades. Through continuous optimization of design quality and intelligent technologies, ZEMSO has transformed the traditional bus shelter into a multifunctional public space that combines practicality with user experience. The project introduces a new urban expression for Shibei Hi-Tech Park while enriching the city's smart mobility ecosystem.
Following the successful implementation of smart bus shelter projects in Jiading and Fengxian, ZEMSO has now expanded its presence into Jing'an District, further strengthening its footprint across Shanghai.
Building upon previous project experience, the Jing'an smart bus shelter incorporates a new generation of design concepts and achieves systematic improvements in structural engineering, equipment integration, and functional configuration.
Looking ahead, ZEMSO Group will continue to deepen its presence in the Shanghai market, driving ongoing innovation and deployment of smart bus shelter solutions through enhanced design, functionality, and digital technologies.
