As one of the city’s pioneering projects that seamlessly integrates local cultural elements with smart urban functions, this bus shelter marks a milestone in Fengxian’s smart city development. It not only enriches the district with a distinctive “smart landmark” but also represents a replicable and scalable “Shanghai Model” that is now taking root across urban renewal projects nationwide.
Notably, among Shanghai’s ongoing smart infrastructure upgrades, few projects have so successfully combined regional culture and intelligent technology. From its inception, Boyu Guanhai was envisioned as “a model smart bus shelter featuring iconic Shanghai coastal culture.” This innovative concept won recognition during the 2025 Fengxian District Public Transport Facilities Upgrade Design Competition, and today, the award-winning blueprint has come to life—becoming a shining symbol of Shanghai’s smart city evolution.
When dusk falls, the shelter’s streamlined structure, inspired by the “Fish of Shanghai” landmark, comes alive through the play of light and shadow—like a glowing fish swimming through the cityscape, symbolizing Shanghai’s creative brilliance as a “Global City of Excellence.” Its minimalist design carries technological sophistication, and through light and form, it tells the story of an evolving city. Fengxian has already taken a solid step forward in this transformation, setting an inspiring example for smart urban development.
Here, waiting is no longer a waste of time but a pleasant experience. Dual 55-inch HD screens provide real-time bus schedules and local news. The seating features USB and wireless charging modules, giving phones a “quick recharge.” An adaptive lighting system automatically adjusts brightness according to the environment—warm and bright when people are present, soft and ambient when they leave—perfectly balancing comfort, safety, and energy efficiency, reflecting Shanghai’s commitment to its “dual carbon” goals.
