On October 28, the Publicity Conference on Regulations and Standards for the Public Transportation Industry was held in Bozhou, Anhui Province. The event brought together public transportation associations, transportation research institutions, and transit operators from various regions to discuss industry regulations, standards, and practical applications. It provided a platform for exchanging insights and promoting the implementation of industry standards, technological innovation, and improved public transportation services.
Shanghai Zemso Urban Furniture Technology Co., Ltd. was invited to attend the conference. Wu Fuyun, Deputy General Manager of ZEMSO, delivered a presentation on the Technical Requirements for Intelligent Urban Bus Shelters. Drawing on industry standards and practical experience, she shared insights into the technological applications of intelligent bus shelters and highlighted the trend toward smarter, more integrated, and scenario-oriented public transportation facilities.
The Technical Requirements for Intelligent Urban Bus Shelters (T/CCES 6011—2025), issued by the China Civil Engineering Society, was approved and published on December 22, 2025, and officially came into effect on March 1, 2026. It is China's first technical standard specifically dedicated to intelligent urban bus shelters.
The standard was jointly compiled by Shanghai ZEMSO Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. It establishes technical guidelines for the standardized development of intelligent bus shelters, covering functional configurations, construction and implementation, as well as operation and maintenance.
With the continued development of smart cities, traditional bus shelters are evolving into integrated public service facilities that combine real-time information, intelligent interaction, convenient services, and intelligent connectivity.
At the conference, Fuyun Wu, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai ZEMSO, presented an in-depth interpretation of the standard's key requirements, combining industry practices to explain the development direction and construction principles of intelligent bus shelters.
1. Classified Design for More Appropriate Facility Configurations
The standard classifies intelligent bus shelters into three types: Type I – Basic Service, Type II – Enhanced Functionality, and Type III – Flagship Demonstration. This classification accommodates different road conditions, passenger volumes, and project requirements.
2. Integrated Functions for Smarter Passenger Services
By integrating real-time bus information, multimedia interaction, voice announcements, age-friendly design, and convenient public services, intelligent bus shelters can significantly enhance the passenger experience and improve the quality of public services.
3. Efficient Operation and Maintenance for Long-Term Project Value
Through equipment status monitoring, fault alerts, remote content publishing, and centralized management, intelligent bus shelters are moving beyond a construction-and-delivery model toward an integrated approach that places equal emphasis on construction and long-term operation.
By combining industry standards with practical applications, ZEMSO provides valuable industry insights into the technical requirements and development trends of intelligent bus shelters.
As one of the organizations that jointly compiled this industry standard, ZEMSO continues to focus on the smart public transportation sector, promoting the integrated development of intelligent bus shelters, digital bus stop signage, bus information publishing systems, and digital management platforms.
Intelligent Connectivity
The intelligent connected autonomous driving bus stop platform, manufactured by ZEMSO with technical support from Baidu Apollo, has been completed and put into operation. Related projects have been implemented in Chongqing and Songyang County, Lishui, Zhejiang Province, among other locations.
Convenient Public Services
ZEMSO continues to explore the integration of accessible bus shelters, voice-assisted services, and multifunctional public services to create more inclusive and convenient urban transportation environments.
From intelligent hardware to digital platforms, ZEMSO continues to strengthen its smart public transportation capabilities, delivering scenario-based solutions tailored to the needs of different cities and projects.
Intelligent bus shelters are evolving beyond basic transportation services into multifunctional urban public spaces. According to the needs of different locations, they can integrate convenience services, commercial retail, digital advertising, and information services, improving both the passenger experience and the utilization of public spaces.
Convenience Services
Mobile device charging, information inquiries, emergency assistance, and other practical services.
Commercial Operations
Coffee, breakfast, fresh fruit, convenience retail, and other commercial services.
Digital Media
Public service announcements, brand communication, and digital media operations.
Customized Scenarios
Integrating local culture and regional characteristics to create distinctive, themed bus stops.
By combining urban development objectives with public transportation operational needs, ZEMSO continues to explore scenario-based solutions that integrate public services, digital technology, and commercial operations.
Industry standards provide essential support for the standardized development of smart public transportation facilities. ZEMSO's participation in the conference and its expert presentation demonstrate the company's continued commitment to industry collaboration, technical knowledge sharing, and practical innovation.
Looking ahead, Shanghai ZEMSO Group will continue to build on industry standards, drive progress through technological innovation, and focus on real-world applications. The company will further enhance its products and services across intelligent bus shelters, digital bus stop signage, intelligent connectivity, and integrated management systems.
